Saints & Sinners
“Blues from the heart!” DUSTY’S BLUES CLUB
“This is simply unmissable blues at its very best.” BLUES IN BRITAIN
“These guys are serious about their music and it shows – the music rocked on, the audience partied…everyone went home happy!”
BLUES BAR, TRING
Saints & Sinners are Ben Tyzack, Constance Redgrave and Maurice McElroy, known to everyone as The Spikedrivers, who thrilled the audience at Mycenae House last year, joined by blues duo Mike Burke and Fran McGillivray.
Saints & Sinners’ set mixes classic Gospel songs with The Devil’s Music – the Blues – two branches of the same tree, one developing on a Saturday night in the speakeasies and the other on Sunday morning in church.
Songs from Robert Johnson, Mahalia Jackson, Ma Rainey, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Bessie Smith and Blind Willie Johnson among others sit side by side, mixing tales of elation, the sad and bad times, loss and redemption and a whole lot of grooves.
With five voices, slide guitar, bass, percussion & even some homemade instruments these musicians create a world of soul, stories and soundscapes.
All this is contained on their highly-praised new CD, Going Over Home.
Join us for a foot-stomping, gut-wrenching, heart-soaring journey from the cross to the crossroads….and all points in-between.
